It is recommended to get waxed every 4-6 weeks to ensure best results. Sometimes waiting longer can increase sensitivity and stubble. Exclusively waxing for a period of time will dramatically decrease the density and thickness of your hair.
It is not recommended for clients who are on oral acne medicines to be waxed. These medicines thin out your skin dramatically and pose a risk for your skin coming off or scarring. It is also recommended anyone using an topical acne medicines or retinol to discontinue use 2 weeks prior to receiving waxing services. Please always let Shaughnessy know if your skin care routine has changed.
For your first wax from shaving most clients will not see hair growing back for 1-1.5 weeks. There is a transition from shaving to waxing, so this will be the case for your first 3-4 waxes. After that most waxes will last 2-3 weeks prior to seeing new hair growth. Waxing is an investment, some clients will notice even longer lasting results between waxes depending on their consistency and exfoliating regimen.
Keeping up with an at home skin exfoliating routine will greatly improve the results of your waxes. SPWC recommends using a bristled brush in the shower 2 days post wax to ensure no dead skin build up on the surface area of the skin, that way no hairs get stuck under dead skin. Once you’re out of the shower, a roll on gel called PFB has acids to work deeper in your follicle, preventing build up that creates the cystic painful ingrowns. Both are sold in the studio, and Shaughnessy would be happy to assist you in what products will help with your skin concerns.
